Dave’s Comp: Vintage Compressor for Some Great Tones

Great Vintage Compressor

Great Vintage Compressor

Compression is one of the most under-rated effects of all time. Many people will buy a distortion/overdrive pedal, but miss out on the great tones they can achieve when using a compressor before it in the chain.

Basically, a compressor does exactly what it says on the tin, compressing the signal from the guitar, evening out the highs and lows and creating a stronger, more focussed signal which has a much longer sustain and drives distortion effects for some truly inspirational sounds. Think of Gilmour’s legendary solo on Pink Floyd’s Comfortably Numb from The Wall, and there you have a great example of compression in action. Searing bends and perfect long sustain came together with his expert technique in order to create this contender for the best guitar solo of all time.

Our Dave’s Comp compression/sustain pedal has been designed for this kind of sound. Featuring three controls for volume, sustain and attack, its a great pedal for many different genres and styles. Crank up the attack and bypass your distortion for an explosively clear tone perfect for funk riffing and bright arpeggios. Crank up the sustain and use Dave’s Comp to add extra juice to your distorted tone for those beautiful solo guitar sounds. Anything is possible with this versatile pedal.

Wall Era Effects Pedal: Dave Gilmour’s Distortion Sound on Pink Floyd’s ‘The Wall’

Wall Era - Gilmour's Muff Sound on The Wall

Wall Era – Gilmour’s Muff Sound on The Wall

Introducing the Baroni Lab Wall Era distortion pedal. This stompbox provides a wonderful distortion, deep and rich in harmonics. Modelled after Gilmour’s set-up for Pink Floyd’s ‘The Wall’, this is a boutique big muff style pedal not to be missed.

The Wall included a great many famous songs, including Comfortably Numb and Another Brick in the Wall Parts 1-3, which have made a huge impression on the world of music since the albums release over 30 years ago.

Our Wall Era features three knobs for changing ‘Drive’, ‘Tone’ and ‘Volume’, as well as a toggle switch to change between ‘Flat’ and ‘Mid Boost’ modes, complete with a footswitch for going between buffered bypass and active. The tone control is particularly interesting, as it not only covers bass to treble, but also alters the kind of distortion applied to the sound. This means that the Wall Era is one of the most versatile big muff distortions available today!
